elements is a concert programme by percussionist and composer Daan Wilms that explores the four classical elements — Earth, Water, Fire and Air — through rhythm, movement and material.

At the centre of the programme is Elements, a four-movement chamber work for three percussionists. Each movement approaches one of the elements from a different musical perspective: shifting tectonic plates, sounds from beneath the surface of the ocean, the movement and energy of fire, and the physical act of breathing.

The four movements are complemented by Echo, Flow, Catatumbo and Breath — works in which the materials and physical properties associated with each element become part of the music itself.

Stones, water-filled porcelain bowls, movement, breath and unconventional percussion techniques extend the instrumental world of the three performers. Sound is not only heard, but made visible: gestures, materials and movement become an integral part of the musical experience.
