Rhythm and the sound of rushing water are among the first sensory impressions we experience in the womb.
In his solo programme Water, Daan Wilms brings these two elements together, transforming them into a multifaceted world of sound, movement and rhythm.
Dripping. Rushing. Flowing. Pulsing.
Water als instrument
At the heart of Water lies Wilms’ fascination with the hidden musical potential of everyday materials. Water is poured, struck, moved and set into vibration, revealing an instrument that is constantly changing and never entirely under control. Drops become rhythms, resonances emerge above and beneath the surface, and the movement of water becomes part of both the sound and the visual language of the performance.
This curiosity reaches back to Wilms’ childhood, when pots, pans and found objects became his first instruments. What began as playful experimentation has developed into an artistic language in which sound can emerge from almost anything. In Water, that curiosity is focused on a single element — explored through rhythm, movement and resonance.
